"Bangor Beginnings"
The earliest recorded visit in this area was by David Thompson, an early
explorer in 1837. The township was first surveyed in the 1850's when there
were very few settlers in the area.
Kamaniskeg Lake in the eastern township is one of Hastings
County's largest lakes. The name is Indian for "Wild Goose".
On the stormy night of November the 12th, 1912, the sternwheeler Mayflower
sank in the waters of this lake. Nine lives were lost.
